Who runs GuitarGenie
GuitarGenie is part of GenieSuite, run by S. Deans, a sole trader based in Portugal. Questions, corrections and anything to do with your data: info@geniesuite.pro.
GuitarGenie has no accounts and asks for nothing about you. The few things you set — practice hours, your tuning preference, whether left-handed mode is on — are stored in your own browser and never sent anywhere. Clearing your browser data removes them. If you email us, we use your address only to reply.
Terms of use
GuitarGenie is a free reference tool, provided as it is and without warranty. Content is general guidance, not a substitute for lessons with a teacher or work by a qualified guitar tech, and you use it at your own discretion.
Everything here is written and checked carefully, but guitars vary and so does advice. Where a job risks damaging an instrument — truss rod adjustments, nut work, acoustic intonation — we say so and point you to a professional. Tell us if you spot an error and we will correct it.
Manufacturer and product names are used only to identify and describe equipment. Those trademarks belong to their respective owners, and no affiliation or endorsement is implied.
External links
Where we link elsewhere we have no control over that site’s content or privacy practices, and a link is not an endorsement of everything on it.
Essential storage keeps the app working — your settings live in your own browser, not on a server. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) are optional, are only set if you choose Accept all, and tell us which pages get used so we can improve them. Nothing is used for advertising or sold on. You can change your mind at any time using the button below.
GuitarGenie is offered from Portugal and follows EU data protection law. Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing to request, correct or delete on our side — what the app stores lives in your own browser and clearing your browser data removes it. If you have emailed us and would like that correspondence deleted, ask and we will.
Affiliate disclosure
Some links on this site may earn GuitarGenie a small commission at no extra cost to you. It never changes what we recommend — we only suggest gear we would suggest to a friend, and anything paid for is labelled as such.

Copyright — the text, diagrams, charts and photographs on GuitarGenie are our own work and remain our copyright. You are very welcome to use the printable tab sheets, and to quote a paragraph with a link back. Please do not republish sections wholesale, or reproduce the diagrams or photographs elsewhere, without asking first — we are usually happy to say yes.
Liability — to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of this site, including damage to an instrument from work you carry out yourself. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be excluded.

Every part of the instrument named, so the rest of this app makes sense.
The shapes, the fretboard behind them, and the scales they come from.
Which keys and chords sit naturally together, and why songs move the way they do.
Finger exercises for every level, and how to hold the guitar so nothing aches.
How to judge a guitar before you hand over money — and how to get a fair price when it is time to move one on.
The "10,000 hours" idea isn't a scientific guarantee — but it's a fun way to see the road ahead.
Nine shapes cover most of what you'll run into.
From gut-strung ancestors to solid-body electrics.
A guitar is wood, wire, and glue — small habits keep it sounding right for decades.
The wood shapes the sound as much as the shape does.

The amp shapes your tone as much as the guitar does.
